Thanks to everyone for beating the cold and heating up the atmosphere. Special thanks to Jorge Muelas for stepping in at the last minute for Gemma de la Cruz, who tried twice to leave Madrid airport, but without success. Also to Juan Vacas, Yoko and Yumi. Who all made a great success with their solo debuts.
Flamenco Express @ Bread and Roses returns on 30th January. Our very special guest will be the irrepressible fireball Titi Flores. Beware. Seeing him this close up might be too much for the faint-hearted and those of a nervous disposition.

Flamenco Express present a monthly showcase of sheer flamenco energy by the finest artists available, followed by an open-mike session, or ‘juerga’ for London-based flamenco lovers eager to share their talent with an audience, and to perform with professional musicians.

Javier Macias
Charismatic cantaor from San Roque, Cadiz. Includes classic bulerias, tangos, fandango, alegerias and the new flamenco in his repertoire. A regular favourite of the Pena de Flamenca de Londres, for whom he has sung for Emillio Maja, among others, and at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz club, alongside distinguised artists such as David Morales. A principal singer with popular London-based group Ilusion Flamenca.
La Joaquina
Founder member, choreographer and director of Flamenco Express. She has worked with Christina Hoyos, Paco Peña and others in Madrid, Tokyo, New York, Montreal, Toronto, Paris and throughout Europe.

Chris Clavo
A founder member and musical director of Flamenco Express, he began playing the guitar at fourteen years old and later studied with flamenco maestros Carlos Heredia, Diego Amaya and Pepe Justicia. He has performed throughout Britain and Europe with Flamenco Express as well as touring with flamenco jazz virtuoso Eduardo Niebla and Iraqi pop sensation Jassim.

Jorge Muelas
A truly dynamic flamenco dancer trained by the Royal Conservatory of Professional Dance in Madrid who went on to tour with Luisillo, Jose Greco and as first soloist with the Belen López Ballet including performances in the Festival of Jerez and the Flamenco festival Caja Madrid.
Gemma de la Cruz (unavailable due to snow, this time)
Trained by legendary artists Belén Fernandez, Belén Maya, Antonio Canales, and Carmen Cortes and is esteemed for her performances to some of flamenco’s most demanding audiences at Teatro Español, Teatro Barcel, Teatro de la Plaza de la Villa, Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid and with Christina Hoyes and Paco Peña in the Royal Opera House and in Tokyo. Founder member of ‘Esencia Flamenca’. Has performed regularly across Europe with Flamenco Express since 1998.
